Powders consist of small particles with an approximately defined size range. Powdered metals in particular are extremely versatile, and result in less waste when they are used, especially to manufacture certain parts and for coatings on other metals. Alloys can be created by sintering a blend of powders to achieve alloying by diffusion. Vanadium powder is useful as a steel additive, and to create other vanadium alloys. In this form it produces one of the toughest alloys for armour plate, axles, piston rods and crankshaft applications. Vanadium powder is also useful in the making of catalysts, pigments, in nuclear applications, and as a bonding agent.
